Community Standards

What is and isn’t allowed on Palster. These rules apply to everyone and everything here: people, pages, spaces, Mart listings, messages and AI.

On this page

Palster is for everyone and everything: friends and family, work and study, hobbies, faith, sport, business and local life. These standards keep it a place where people feel safe to show up as themselves. They apply to everything on Palster (posts, comments, messages, Scenes, live rooms, profiles, pages, spaces, circles, events, Mart listings and reviews) and to AI-made content as much as anything else.

Context matters. We look at what was said, to whom, and why: talking about a problem, reporting news, raising awareness, joking among friends or quoting someone to criticise them can all be fine where the same words as an attack are not. Spaces and pages can add their own house rules, but they can never allow what these standards forbid.

If someone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first. Palster can’t send help.

Harassment and bullying

In short

Disagree as much as you like. Don’t target people.

Don’t threaten, degrade, shame or intimidate people, or encourage others to. This includes:

  • Repeated unwanted contact, especially after someone has asked you to stop or blocked you, or using another account to reach them.
  • Insults about someone’s appearance, body, sexual life, or a tragedy they’ve been through.
  • Organising or joining a pile-on against someone.
  • Sexual comments or advances someone doesn’t want.
  • Wishing or celebrating serious harm to a private person.

Public figures can be criticised, sharply, for what they do in public. They can’t be threatened, and their families can’t be targeted.

Hate

Don’t attack people for who they are: race, ethnicity, nationality, caste, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, serious illness, or age. That means no slurs, dehumanising comparisons, calls to exclude or segregate, stereotypes used to demean, or praise for hateful groups and ideologies.

You can discuss these topics, condemn hate, share your own experience, and quote hateful words to call them out, as long as the purpose is clear.

Violence, threats and dangerous groups

Not allowed

  • Threats or calls to hurt someone, even “as a joke” when they can be taken seriously.
  • Praising, supporting or recruiting for terrorist groups, violent extremist groups or organised crime.
  • Instructions for making weapons meant to hurt people, or for attacks.
  • Celebrating real attacks or their victims’ suffering.
  • Gory images shared to shock or glorify.

Allowed

  • News, history and discussion of violence and conflict.
  • Self-defence and martial arts, hunting and sport shooting where legal.
  • Fiction, games and art, clearly presented as such.
  • Graphic images shared to document abuses or raise awareness, with a warning in the post.

Hazing

Fraternities, sororities, teams and clubs are welcome, but promoting, organising or recruiting for initiation rites that hurt or humiliate people is not, and neither is pressuring anyone to take part or sharing footage of it to celebrate it. Talking about hazing, reporting on it, or telling what happened to you is fine. This applies everywhere, whether or not local law forbids hazing; in many places it is also a crime.

Child safety

In short

Zero tolerance. We remove it, close the account, and report it to the authorities.

Never share, ask for, or link to sexual content involving anyone under 18, including drawings and AI-generated images. Never sexualise a child, try to groom one, or arrange to meet a minor for sexual purposes. Don’t share images of children in a state of undress, or in a way that invites sexual attention.

We remove this content, permanently close the accounts involved, keep what the law requires, and report child sexual exploitation to the US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), which works with police worldwide. If you see it, report it, don’t share it, not even to warn others.

Palster is for people 13 and over. We delete accounts of anyone younger.

Sexual content and nudity

  • No sexually explicit content: no pornography, sexual acts or close-ups of genitals, real or AI-generated.
  • No sexual solicitation: no offering or asking for sex, sexual services or explicit images.
  • Never share intimate images of someone without their consent, or threaten to. That includes fake nude or sexual images made with AI or editing (“deepfakes”) and sextortion. We remove it and close the account.

Nudity in art, breastfeeding, health and medical contexts, childbirth, and protest is allowed in posts, but not in profile photos, covers or anything shown to people who haven’t chosen to see it.

Suicide and self-harm

We want people who are struggling to be able to talk about it and find support here. You can share your own experience, recovery and resources.

Don’t encourage or instruct anyone in suicide, self-harm or eating disorders, share graphic images of self-harm, or present it as something to aspire to. Don’t start or join dangerous “challenges”.

If you’re thinking about suicide or hurting yourself, please reach out now. In the US call or text 988. Elsewhere, findahelpline.com lists free, confidential lines in your country. If someone you know on Palster is at risk, contact emergency services and report the post so we can look at it.

Spam, scams and fake engagement

  • No scams: phishing, fake giveaways, advance-fee and romance scams, investment and crypto schemes that promise easy returns, fake charities, or Mart listings for things you don’t have.
  • No asking for passwords, codes, or payment details. Palster will never ask you for your password in a message.
  • No spam: sending the same message or link over and over, unwanted commercial messages, mass pal requests, or comments that only advertise.
  • No fake engagement: buying, selling or trading reactions, followers, reviews or votes, or using fake accounts or automation to make something look popular.
  • No gaming invites: fake or duplicate accounts to collect invite rewards, or selling invites.

Pretending to be someone else

  • Don’t pretend to be another person, page, brand or organisation, or to be Palster or its staff.
  • Don’t claim a badge or verification you don’t have: names can’t contain check marks or badge-like symbols.
  • Parody, fan and commentary accounts are fine if their name and intro make clear they aren’t the real thing.
  • Don’t pass off AI as a real person. If you post a realistic image, video, voice or text mostly made with AI, mark it “Made with AI” in the composer, especially if it shows real people or events. Don’t use AI to put words in a real person’s mouth to mislead.

Privacy and personal information

Don’t share someone’s private information without their permission, or threaten to. This includes:

  • Home addresses, private phone numbers, personal email addresses, ID documents, bank or card details, passwords, medical records.
  • Where someone is right now, if it could put them in danger.
  • Photos or videos of people in private places (homes, changing rooms, bathrooms) taken without their knowledge.
  • Private messages, shared to expose or harass someone.

If someone has shared your private information or a photo of you that you didn’t agree to, report it and we’ll look at it quickly.

Illegal goods and activity, and Mart

Don’t use Palster to break the law or help others to. On Mart, in posts, pages, spaces and messages, don’t buy, sell, trade or give away:

  • Guns, ammunition, explosives, and parts or plans to make them; weapons meant to hurt people.
  • Illegal drugs, prescription medicines, and drug paraphernalia.
  • Alcohol, tobacco and vapes, except where a page sells them legally and limits them to adults.
  • Stolen goods, counterfeits and fakes, hacked accounts, or pirated software, films, music and books.
  • Live animals sold for profit, endangered species and their parts.
  • Adult sexual services or products.
  • Documents and identities: IDs, passports, diplomas, licences, or personal data.
  • Recalled or dangerous products, and anything illegal where you or the buyer live.

Mart sellers must describe items honestly, show real photos of what they’re selling, and only ask for payment when the buyer has the item or a fair way to get it. Read how Mart works.

Harmful false information

People can be wrong, and debate is healthy. We act on false information that is likely to cause real harm:

  • Health claims that could lead to injury or death, such as fake cures, or advice against urgent treatment.
  • Lies about how, when or where to vote, or claims meant to keep people from voting or taking part in a census.
  • Fake emergency alerts or false information during a disaster or crisis that could put people in danger.
  • Edited or AI-made media that makes it look like a real person said or did something they didn’t, shared to mislead.

Copyright and trademarks

Only share what you made or have permission to share. If someone uses your work or brand without permission, see our Copyright and Trademark Policy for how to report it. Accounts that repeatedly infringe are closed.

Something else

Not everything fits a category. If something on Palster is harmful and isn’t covered here, report it and choose the closest reason, or tell us directly. When we act on something under “other”, we always explain in a sentence which concern it raised.

What happens when rules are broken

A person reviews every report. If something breaks these standards, we may remove it, and for serious or repeated breaches suspend the account for 7 days, 30 days or indefinitely. We always tell the person which rule it broke and why, and they can appeal for six months. The person who reported it hears what we decided, without being named. Read how we enforce our rules.

What changed on October 13, 2026
  • Reorganised around the rules our reviewers actually apply, and added sections on hate, sexual content, self-harm, illegal goods and Mart, and harmful false information.
  • Added how AI-made content must be labelled.
  • The hazing rule (added October 12, 2026) is unchanged.
  • Removed descriptions of automatic quarantines and filters that Palster doesn’t use.
